Oyo: NUJ Asks Journalists To Boycott Fani-Kayode’s Media Briefing

The Oyo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists on Monday asked journalists in the state to shun the media briefing called by a former Minister of Aviation, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode.

Fani-Kayode had announced his presence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital to begin his tour of projects of Governor Seyi Makinde.

The former minister had tongue- lashed a reporter with Daily Trust, Eyo Charles , at a press briefing in Calabar after his tour of projects. The journalists had asked who was bankrolling his tour of some states .

Fani-Kayode had called Charles stupid and rained invectives on him for asking him such a question. He later apologised for his diatribe on the journalist.

Babalola gave the boycott directive on a radio programme in Ibadan on Monday.

He said journalists should not attend his briefing.

Babalola said, “We just learnt that FFK in his usual junketing across the nation landed in Ibadan last night. We heard that he has invited some of our colleagues to a press conference.

“As I am talking to you now, we have not got any circular, any contrary position from the NUJ in Abuja to forgive him or attend any of his programmes.

“As a journalist, I expect that FFK would have paid a visit to the NUJ President, Chris Iziguso, and the management of Daily Trust newspaper to atone for his many ‘sins’ against the journalists in the country.

“So, for now Oyo NUJ position is still very clear that we are boycotting today’s press conference in Ibadan.
The reason for FFK’s ongoing tour is still strange to all.”

The NUJ chairman said although the former minister had apologised, he should allow the heat to go down and keep his findings to himself for now.
