Oyo NULGE Leaders May Face Charges For Ignoring Court Order – Presidential Aspirant

One of the contestants for the position of the President, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Oyo State Chapter, Mr Hakeem Oyewo, has said leaders of the union who went ahead to conduct elections into offices of the union despite the restraining order of the court may be
dragged to court for contempt .

Oyewo, who said this in an interview with our correspondent, said he was surprised at the flagrant disobedience to the order of the court.

He said Justice N. C. S. Ogbuanya of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria sitting in Lagos gave a restraining order against the conduct of the election scheduled to hold on September 22.

Oyewo said despite the subsisting court order, some leaders of the union went ahead to conduct a ‘kangaroo election’ in the early hours of Tuesday.

He said, ” There is a susbisting order that the election which was scheduled to hold at 10am on September 22 at the Liberty Stadium should not hold. But they went ahead despite that.

” They conducted the so called election in the early hours of September 22 and I was told they held the election at a hall in Iyaganku area.

” That is contempt of court in itself and I can drag them to court for contempt but I will wait for my lawyer to advise on what should be done. “

Counsel for the plaintiff, Mr Akeem Ajagbe, when contacted told our correspondent that filing for contempt was one of the options before his client, Oyewo, but he said he had yet to decide on that.

He said the defendants were duly served the court order but they still went ahead to hold the election despite that.

The Secretary of NULGE in Oyo State, Mr Chucks Nwankwo, refused to answer several calls put across to his phone and also did not reply the text message sent to inquire why the election was conducted despite the court order.
