A Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho, was said to have gone to the settlement of the Seriki Fulani in the state, Saliu Kadri, to ask him to vacate the place. The alleged eviction notice caused a clash.

The residents claimed that the attack was carried out by some boys loyal to the Seriki Fulani.

Some of the residents circulated gory pictures of the victims who were badly macheted allegedly by the assailants.

The Convener of Igangan Development Advocates, Oladiran Oladokun, was quoted as saying: “Sunday Igboho came to Igangan today and went round to remind Fulani people that all Kara Market should be shut down for now as agreed by the communities.

“He also went to Seriki Fulani’s settlement and they almost clashed. But after he had left the community some of the boys loyal to Seriki went out and attacked farmers returning home from their farms. They did that to show Sunday Igboho that he could not to threaten them. They inflicted injuries on four and two of them died eventually.”

The Punch quoted the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, as saying Igboho stormed the Fulani settlement in the town and  asked them to leave the place within seven days.

The PPRO said four persons were injured during the invasion of the Fulani settlement by Igboho.

“Today at about 1800 hours, the popular Sunday Igboho from Igboho town stormed Fulani camp at Igangan in four Hilux pickup vans and attacked the people while injuring four persons.

“He further warned them to vacate the camp in seven days or be forcefully evicted. The injured were taken to the hospital for treatment. Police patrol vehicle has been deployed to the area while effort is on to trail the attackers. Investigation has commenced into the matter.”
