Panel Calls For Memoranda From Public Over Killing Of Enugu Monarch

The judicial commission of inquiry set up by the Enugu State government to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the circumstances leading to the killing of the traditional ruler of Oruku community in Nkanu East Local Government Area, Igwe Emmanuel Chidiebere Mba, Thursday, called for memoranda from the general public aimed at unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to a statement by the secretary to the commission, Dr Godwin Anigbo, “The deadline for submission of the memoranda shall be two weeks from 16th January, 2021, but not later than Monday, 1st February, 2021.”

Our correspondent reports that Gov Ugwuanyi, while inaugurating the panel, headed by Justice Harold Eya, charged the members to discharge their duties diligently. Gov Ugwuanyi, during the event, reiterated his administration’s commitment to the security and welfare of the people, which, according to him, ‘is the primary purpose of the state government as enshrined in the constitution of Nigeria’.

He further urged the people of Oruku community to avoid talking laws into their hands.
