Panic In Lagos Community Over Massive Fuel Spillage From NNPC Pipeline

Residents of Abule Soba in Lagos State are living in fear following the massive oil leakage from the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation pipelines in the community.

Our correspondent gathered that the spillage happened on Friday and the fear of possible explosion had forced some residents to flee the area.

Although it was not clear if the pipelines were ruptured by vandals or the spillage was due to the age of the facility,

Pipeline vandalism has been a recurring decimal in some areas around Lagos.

The Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, has confirmed the incident in a.statement.

The LASEMA DG said there was a massive leakage at Abule Soba but added that the NNPC was working to stop the leakage in order to prevent explosion.

He appealed to residents of the area to do everything with caution in order to prevent a spark that might lead to massive fire incident while assuring them that the situation would soon be brought under control.

He siad, “We received an alert about the above incident at Abule-Ado-Soba on Friday 2nd October, 2020 and have activated the State Emergency Response Plan.

“The agency and other first responders intend to remain on high alert while the NNPC have been informed of the incident and are activating their own repair teams.

” Members of the public are advised to be sensitive and are also cautioned to proceed with extreme caution in and around the area to prevent any form of explosion or ignition from naked flame or other activity.”

He said the agency would continue to give update to members of the public while urging them to “call #call112emergencytollfree,” in case of any urgent situation.
