PDP Congresses Force Senate To Adjourn Till May 12

Upon resumption of the days plenary, the Senate did not consider any motion or bill as the number of senators present was not up to the required number.

According to the Senate Rule Book 2015 as amended, the minimum number of senators at plenary shall be one third of the lawmakers.

This means that 37 senators need to be present for a sitting to hold.

The absence of the lawmakers, therefore, forced the senate to adjourn proceedings and suspend plenary till the end of the PDP congresses.

Shortly after the consideration of the votes and proceedings for Wednesday, senate leader Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South), moved that plenary be adjourned.

The senators overwhelmingly supported Ndume’s move after which Saraki put the request to a voice vote.

Saraki thereafter adjourned plenary till May 12 (Thursday).
