The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended the tenure of the Ahmed Makarfi Led Caretaker Committee by one year.

This extension was effected through a vote of confidence by the national delegates at the party secretariat in Port Harcourt.

The party therefore suspended the planned elections into its national executive council. The motion was moved by Minority Leader of the House of Reps, Leo Ogor and it was seconded by a voice vote.

The party’s national convention was slated to hold today at Sharks stadium, Port Harcourt, but a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja restrained the party from commencing with the convention.

As early as 2:00pm this morning, armed policemen and the men of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC sealed off the venue.

Furthermore, armed policemen deployed by the Inspector General of Police to Rivers State this morning, stopped governors of the PDP, who had gathered at the Government House from leaving the premises.
