PDP Knocks Buhari Over London ‘Technical Stopover’

- Calls It Impunity, Constitutional Breach

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s “technical stopover” in London as an impunity and breach of the Constitution.

The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Thursday said: “Buhari left the United States 48 hours ago and embarked on an unofficial visit to United Kingdom for undisclosed reasons without transmitting a letter to the National Assembly.” Therefore making his actions unconstitutional.

Ologbondiyan said, “Nigerians are worried about the signal being sent out by this penchant for secret itinerary, particularly, given the poor reputation and governance transparency issues confronting our nation under the Buhari administration.”

The president’s special assistant on media, Garba Shehu, had earlier on Thursday clarified Buhari’s “technical stopover” statement.

Shehu said the presidential aircraft had to stop in London in other to “refuel, do some checks and then proceed on the journey,” because the president’s main aircraft was undergoing repairs, hence his principal made the United States trip using a smaller jet.
