PDP Passes No Confidence Vote On INEC Chairman…Doubts Fairness In 2019 Elections

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Sunday, voiced strong scepticism on the credibility of next year’s general elections.

This follows the recent declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that there was no evidence of underage voting in Kano.

Recall that the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, had set up a fact-finding committee following the public outcry that greeted videos and photos of underage voting believed to have been shot during the Kano election.

The Chairman of the committee, Abubakar Nahuce, had on Friday told pressmen that the panel did not see any evidence of underage voting in the poll.

PDP in reaction to INEC’s claim described the statement its chairman as a threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

PDP accused the INEC boss of allowing the All Progressive Congress (APC)-led Federal Government to push him to make such false declaration despite manifest documentary evidence in the public domain and even by INEC officials.

“The entire world is shocked at how INEC under Prof. Yakubu is caving into pressure by APC to manipulate processes leading to the 2019 general election.

“In any case, we hope Prof. Yakubu understands that the APC is only setting him up against Nigerians but we caution that he should not allow himself to be used to throw our nation into chaos and confusion,” said the party spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan.
