PDP Raises Alarm Over Alleged Invasion Of Akwa Ibom Assembly By APC Thugs

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alerted security agencies over an alleged influx of thugs of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to cause pandemonium in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

PDP, in a statement on its Twitter account on Monday, said the thugs invaded the complex, chanting the slogan “APC! Change” as they set fire and blocked the entrance to the Assembly complex.

The recent allegation may not be unconnected to the sacking of the state lawmaker Idongesit Ituen, who represented the Itu state constituency after he defected from the PDP to the APC.

Mr Ituen had filed a suit in September at a federal high court in Uyo to pre-empt the speaker of the assembly Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Onofiok Luke, from declaring his seat vacant after his defection.

But the court, in its judgment, dismissed the main suit and granted all the reliefs sought by the speaker, which included an order of the court restraining the speaker from further recognition of Mr Ituen as a member of the assembly.
