PHOTO: Malami Uses VPN To Deactivate Twitter Account

Amidst the suspension of Twitter in Nigeria, the country’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malaimi SAN, on Tuesday, announced the deactivation of his account on the micro-blogging service.

Malami floated a photo of the said account on his official Facebook page.

However, the photo showed that the AGF logged into his account using a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Our correspondent observed a VPN sign on the device used to deactivate the account.

A VPN is a protected network connection that disguises a person’s identity while using the internet.

Recall that Malami had ordered the immediate prosecution of offenders of the Federal Government’s ban on Twitter operations in Nigeria, including those who use other means to access the platform.

THE WHISTLER reported on Monday that Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, had notified the public that the government’s ban on Twitter was to ensure that the platform becomes a more “responsible” social media tool.
