PHOTOS: Reps Suspend ‘Order Paper’ To Honour Air Peace Boss, Allen Onyema

The House of Representatives on Wednesday temporarily suspended its plenary to allow lawmakers receive The Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema for recognition over the free services offered by his domestic airline to evacuate Nigerians under xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

The action of the house comes less than 24 hours after the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila commended Onyema for his magnanimity.

After the opening prayers were said, Gbajabiamila asked that the Order Paper for the day’s plenary be suspended to allow the house receive Onyema.

Immediately the Airline boss was ushered in the chamber by the Chief Whip, Mohammed Monguno, several lawmakers approached him to embrace and shake hands with him.

More lawmakers also approached him where he was seated to greet him.

“This is one of our epic moments in the chambers,” Gbajabiamila said.

“We hereby commend Mr Allen Onyema and recommend him to the Federal Government for higher honours in Nigeria,” he added.

“We owe him gratitude for flying Nigerians stranded in South Africa back home at no cost. His benevolence will not be forgotten. Join me in thanking him,” the speaker concluded in a post on his Facebook page.

“You have brought tears to my eyes again. I have never been so honoured in my life,” Onyema said in the opening of his speech.

Recall that Onyema’s Air Peace had indicated its willingness to evacuate citizens of the country to complement efforts of the Federal Government to check the death of Nigerians residing in South Africa.

The airline had written to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, urging the government to facilitate the rescue of the country’s stranded citizens in the country.

Subsequently, Hundreds of Nigerians have since seized the opportunity and returned to the country.
