Pilgrims From Buhari’s Katsina Riot Over Mecca Accommodation

The 300 strong pilgrims from Katsina State were on a near-rampage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia over poor accommodation secured for them by the state Pilgrims Welfare Board.

Reports have it that the pilgrims who arrived Mecca at about 4p.m on Monday, refused the accommodation provided for them as the hotel lacked basic facilities for human habitation.

Most of the pilgrims rejected the Dar al Sa’adatu wal Khair hotel, which they were housed, rather camped at the Katsina state office in Mecca, where they passed the night.

According to the pilgrims, the rooms had no air conditions and adequate toilets, with as many as 15 people expected to share one toilet facility.

Worried by the development, the Chairman, Katsina State House of Assembly Committee on Hajj Monitoring, Alhaji Abdullahi Mahuta, appealed to the pilgrims to exercise patience, saying they had discussed with the hotel management to rectify the anomaly.

Mahuta urged the pilgrims to accept the accommodation so as not lose sight of their religious obligation, and intimated that efforts were on to address areas of concern.

The State’s team Leader, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, who is also the state Deputy Governor, had also visited the hotel and pleaded with the pilgrims to accept the accommodation.

He promised that all facilities lacking in the hotel would be provided within a short time.
