Pipeline explosion at Arepo causes NNPC to shut product supply

Lagos – The fire from the explosion at the NNPC pipeline at Elepete, Arepo in Ikorodu area of Lagos had been put off as the corporation shut down product supply through pipeline.

A Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who visited Arepo to check the effect explosion reports that the area is calm.

It was observed that there were about five speed boats carrying some men suspected to be vandals, who came to the scene of the incident to search for their dead colleagues.

Each boat left the scene after about an hour carrying suspected dead bodies.

Some policemen who were in mufti were seen around with one of them carrying his rifle.

Some of the residents of Beachland Estate, who spoke to NAN on condition of anonymity said the explosion and vandals activities were becoming worrisome to them.

One of the residents was said to have died of heart attack when the explosion happened.

In the company of other media men who visited the street where the victim died, they were told to leave the area so as not to put the family in trouble.

“We don’t want press people here. The man that died was a banker not vandal,’’ a resident said anonymously and gave no further detail about the deceased.
