Police Anti-Cult Team Raids Black Spots In Anambra, Arrests 2 Suspects

One Ahamefuna Onyema, 41 years old, and 38-year-old Destiny Anyaku, both residing at Umueze village at Amawbia in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State were weekend arrested over their alleged involvement in cult activities.

Their arrest followed a raid at a black spot by the state police command’s Anti-Cult Unit aimed at stemming the rate of cult activities in the state.

The state police public relations officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, told newsmen that, “The suspects voluntarily confessed to be members of the Vikings Secret Cult Confraternity. The exhibits recovered in their possessions include one locally made double barrel pistol and one live cartridge concealed inside a bag hung on the neck by one of the suspects.”

In a related development, the command’s Anti-Cult Unit weekend responded to a distress call in respect of a robbery incident along Ideani/Alor road in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.

The state police PRO told THE WHISTLER that, “The suspects, on sighting the police, jettisoned the robbery operation and escaped into the bush, abandoning one unregistered Kymstone motorcycle and a locally made single barrel gun, which were recovered as exhibits. Efforts are being intensified to get the fleeing suspects arrested in order to bring them to book.”

He said the state commissioner of police, CP John B Abang, had commended people of the state for cooperating with the force during the yuletide, which helped in reducing criminal activities. CP Abang also urged them to sustain the tempo by assisting the command with actionable intelligence to ensure adequate security in the state.
