Police Arraign Man In Abuja For Refusing To Pay His Lawyer

A Grade 1 Area Court Kubwa, Abuja has been told that one Ime Ibanga refused to pay his lawyer after appearing in court as his counsel.

Ibanga was accused of failing to pay one Johnson O. Oyewale (M) of Gwagwa about N360,000 having purportedly defended him in a case at a Lagos State High Court.

Ibanga was arraigned before the court on Tuesday by the Commissioner of Police on charges bordering on criminal breach of trust, cheating and intimidation.

The police, through its lawyer, Barr. John Okpa said it had to take up the matter when Oyewale reported it to them.

The following charge was read to him by the court Registrar:

“On 23/5/2019 at about 15.00hrs one Johnson O. Oyewale (M) of Gwagwa Abuja came to police station Zuba and reported against you Ime Ibanga M of Zuba and one Victor now at large.

“That you came to him and consulted him to help defend you on petition you wrote against F SARS at Lagos High Court and after he defended you, you criminally refused to pay him the sum of N360,000 for the work he did perfectly for you and any time he ask you about the money you kept treating him to deals.

“Also you, Ime Ibanga gave him fake address with the intent not to pay him the money for the work that you promised to pay him for, by so doing, you hereby committed the offense.”

Ibanga told the judge, M. Wakili, that the allegations were not true.

Subsequently, Wakili adjourned the matter to September 22 while granting him bail with one surety.

“The defendant is granted bail in the sum of N100,000. Case adjourned to 22 September for hearing,” the judge said.
