Anambra: Police Arrest Four Suspected Armed Robbers, Kidnappers

The Anambra State Police Command on Tuesday said it arrested four suspected members of a criminal gang said to be involved in armed robbery and kidnapping in Aguleri.

The Police Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, stormed the area in the early hours of September 24 following what authorities described as “credible intelligence.”

The suspects, all males aged between 22 and 40, were identified as Uchenna Aniegboka, Sunday Nwakalor, Chukwuebuka Aniegbunam and Onyebuchi Udemba.

During the operation, police recovered a pump-action gun and a black Toyota Camry with registration number SMK 835 FC.

The State Police Commissioner, Ikioye Orutugu said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to ensure criminal gangs are flushed out of Anambra.

“The Command reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that criminal elements have no hiding place in the State,” he said.

Orutugu also urged residents to support security efforts by sharing timely information with the police.

The suspects are still being interrogated and will be charged in court once investigations are completed, Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed.

In a similar development, police operatives rescued a kidnapped victim “just seven hours after he was abducted”.

The police said the development followed a coordinated operation at the Oba/Ojoto axis on Tuesday.

The victim, who was abducted by armed men at Umuru Village, Nnobi, had been held while the criminals demanded a ransom of N10m.

According to the police, a joint tactical team was deployed to the area, where the kidnappers reportedly abandoned the victim and fled into nearby bushes.

“The victim was rescued unharmed, debriefed, and has since been reunited with his family,” Ikenga said..

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, applauded the officers, urging them yo remain unwavering in their commitment to fighting crime, protecting lives, and ensuring public safety.”
