Police Arrest Petty Robbers Who ‘Attack With Bottles’ in Anambra

Police in Anambra State, Sunday, arrested a member of a two-man petty robbery syndicate for allegedly attacking two victims with bottles and dispossessing them of N9000 cash and phones. They were said to be operating on a tricycle, popularly called Keke.

A release by the state command’s public relations officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, and made available to THE WHISTLER in Awka, Monday, stated that the arrest was effected by police operatives attached to ‘B’ Division in conjunction with local vigilantes.

The statement read that, “On the 1/11/2020, there was a distress call by one Ifejika Ogechi, ‘f’, and Cheta Geofrey, ‘m’, that while returning from work, they were attacked with bottles, and dispossessed of their phones and cash sum of #9000 by a two-man robbery syndicate operating on Keke tricycle at Okpuno, Awka. Following the distress call, police operatives attached to ‘B’ Division, Awka, in conjunction with a local vigilante group arrested one Christian Nwalieji, 29, of Umuawa Ifite Ogwari in Ayamelum Local Government Area, but resides at City Supermarket area, Okpuno.

“The suspect confessed to the crime, and is assisting the police to arrest other accomplices in order to bring them to book.”

Our correspondent reports that one Keke tricycle with registration number Anambra ZBL-121-VC, used in committing the act, was recovered as an exhibit.

Meanwhile, the state commissioner of police, CP John B.Abang, has warned criminals in the state to jettison crimes or relocate before the long arm of the law catches up with them.
