Police Confirm ‘Sporadic Gunshots’ Before Kidnapping Of Redeemed Church Pastor

A pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Lafia, Nasarawa State, John Egla, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Wednesday.

The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the pastor’s abduction to newsmen on Wednesday.

The command’s spokesperson, Nansel Ramhan, said Egla was abducted at his residence in Shabu community on the outskirts of Lafia.

According to Ramhan, the pastor’s abductors fired sporadic gunshots at about 1:16 a.m. on Wednesday before whisking him away.

The spokesperson said the gunmen abducted Egla, who was with his family, before the police could arrive at the location. He said the police found six empty shells of AK 47 ammunition at the scene of the abduction.

Also confirming Egla’s abduction, a senior RCCG pastor, Falaye Omoniyi, said his wife and members family had been traumatized following the incident.

Omoniyi said Egla pastors the Oasis of Life Parish of the church’s Nasarawa Province 2.

Meanwhile, the incident is the latest in the wave of abductions in Nigeria in recent times, despite the efforts of the federal government to tackle the problem.

THE WHISTLER had reported how nine persons including a 12 year old boy and an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps were kidnapped in Pegi community in Kuje Area Council,  Abuja, on Tuesday.
