Police Deny Plans To Arrest Journalist Behind IGP Video

The Kano State Police Command has dismissed reports it is in search of journalist behind a video of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

In a statement signed on Saturday by Magaji Musa Majia, the Kano state police Public Relations Officer, the police was reacting to reports that the reporter went into hiding after he was invited by the police.

It was earlier reported that Aminu Nurudeen, a Liberty Television reporter, said to have published a video of the IGP, purportedly struggling to read a speech, has not been seen since he was invited by the Kano State police.

But dismissing the report today, Majia who described it as false, says it is an act by mischief makers.

“The attention of Kano State Police Command is drawn to trending headlines in some national dailies and online Media that the ’’ Police Launched prove, threaten bloggers arrest’’ over IGP’s trending video,” he said.

“The Command hereby debunks the news as false in its entirety and an act by mischief makers. No journalist was arrested nor invited by the Command for interrogation over the video clip.

“It is crystal clear that the Command maintain cordial relationship with the State Chapter of the N.U.J, the Correspondence Chapel and e all bloggers. The Media outlets responsible for the report had their correspondents here in Kano but none consulted the Command to verify the news.”

The clip has since trended online with Nigerians criticizing the police chief.

The journalist is said to have disobeyed an order by releasing the video clip. It was learnt that the Kano police command had instructed journalists not to release the clip.

The police have since distanced itself from the tweet, claiming it was doctored.
