Police Deploy Armoured Vehicle As Lagos Students Protest Killing Of Colleagues By Truck

Lagos State Police Command has deployed more police to the Ojodu area to prevent the peaceful protest embarked on by students of Ojodu Grammar School, Lagos from being hijacked by hoodlums.

Some students of the school were reportedly crushed to death after closing on Tuesday, while some others were injured by a truck which lost control and ran into the secondary school students.

Some of the students staged spontaneous protest on Tuesday and some angry youths who joined them set the truck ablaze and damaged some other vehicles. But the situation was eventually brought under control.

On Wednesday morning, students of the school also staged a peaceful protest and the police deployed their men at the scene to make sure this does not result in further loss of lives and destruction of property.

An Armoured Personnel Carrier was stationed at Grammar School Bus Stop, on Oba Ogunnusi Road while police personnel were seen at various strategic places in the area.

Some schools around the area were also said to have asked their pupils to go home when tension was building in the area as a result of the student protest.

Our correspondent however, gathered that peace had since been restored to the area.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the families of the victims, Lagos State and the school over the death of the students.

The President’s message was contained in a statement by his media aide, Femi Adesina.

The statement reads, “President Muhammadu Buhari commiserates with parents, relations and friends of Ojodu Grammar School students who lost their lives in an accident on Tuesday, along Isheri Road, Ojodu, in Lagos State.

“President Buhari condoles with Government and people of Lagos State and the authorities of Ojodu Grammar School over the sad and painful loss of the promising lives that were cut short in the tragic incident.

“President Buhari prays that the Almighty God will comfort the grieving parents and relations at this very difficult time, and grant the injured quick recovery.”
