Police Foil Armed Robbery Operation, Recover Firearms In Imo

The Imo State Police Command says it has recorded major successes as it foiled a robbery attack and dismantled a gang of suspected robbers terrorising residents in the state capital.

According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, the incidents unfolded on July 31, 2025, when police received a distress call around 9:00 p.m. about an ongoing armed robbery at Bishops Court Roundabout.

Acting swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer of Orji Division led his team to the scene, where they intercepted the suspects, arrested Ernest Nweke, a resident of the World Bank area in Owerri, and recovered a locally made pistol from him.

Later that evening, another victim, Emmanuel Feargod, reported being attacked by a three-man gang near the same location. Police patrol teams apprehended one suspect at the scene, while two others fled into nearby bushes.

Interrogation of the arrested man led to the capture of the other gang members the following day, August 1.

During a search, police recovered a pump-action shotgun and seven live cartridges from the suspects. All are now in custody as investigations continue to trace the origin of the firearms and confirm the identities of accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, commended residents for providing timely information and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest station.
