Police Gun Down 4 Suspects During Attack On Imo Police Station

Operatives of the Imo State police command have killed four gunmen who attacked a police station at Izombe in Oguta Local government Area of the state.

This came barely 24 hours after a court and a proposed building for the police were attacked and razed down by yet-to-be identified gunmen.

According to the police spokesperson in the state, Bala Elkana, the hoodlums attacked the Izombe police post between the hours of 7pm and 10pm on Saturday night.

Elkana said four of the suspected hoodlums were killed by the police while others fled with bullet wounds.

He said: “On 29th May, 2021 between 1900 hours and 2200 hours, some hoodlums in their number launched an offensive on Izombe Police Station but were repelled by the gallant Policemen on duty. Four hoodlums were neutralised during the attack while others escaped with bullet wounds.

“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc commended the men for their abiding faith in defence of the public space and urged them to be resilient in this fight, until the enemies of the people are totally defeated.

“Meanwhile, mop up operation is ongoing with a view of arresting other fleeing members of the gang.”

In another development, a secret illegal oil depot was discovered by the police at the timber market in Naze, Owerri north Local government area of Imo state.

The depot is alleged to be used by attackers of security posts in the state.

Bala said the police uncovered the said depot through a tip off which led the ‘quick intervention unit’ of the Command to seal and arrest 6 suspects.

A tanker with registration number GWA 568 AA was confiscated.
