Police Gun Down Kidnapper In Imo, Free Victim

The Imo state police command, on Monday, rescued one Mr Uzondu Kaka from the den of kidnappers.

Uzondu, a 46-year-old native of Umunuma Okohia in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state had been trailed by an unmarked blue SUV and kidnapped at the entrance of his house in Umunuma Okohia, said the police.

According to the Imo State police spokesperson, Mike Abatam, the tactical team of the state command swung into action, trailed the criminals in a forest at Ehime Mbano and engaged them in a gun duel.

Abatam said on receiving information on Uzondu’s abduction on July 5, “the command tactical teams after gathering technical intelligence was able to trace the location where the Kidnappers used as their Den in the forest at Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State.”

He said, “The Hoodlums on sighting the tactical teams engaged them in a gun duel and in the process one of the suspect was neutralised , others escaped with gunshot wounds and the victim was rescued unhurt.”

Mbatam said that Uzondu was rescued unhurt while a police officer sustained injuries but is receiving treatment.

“The following was recovered at the scene, one pump action gun, five (5) live cartridges,  six (6) expended cartridges and  cellotape used in blindfolding the victim .

“The rescued victim then informed the tactical teams that he was robbed of the sum of the sum of one Hundred and fifty thousand Naira, his ATM card and other valuables. 

“The corpse of the neutralised suspect was later deposited at the federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owerri, Imo State.”

Abatam added that the police were on the trail of the fleeing suspects, while urging the general public to “report any person or persons seen with gunshot injuries  to the nearest police station.”
