Police, Military Foil Robbery Attack In Abuja, Kill One, Arrest Four

The police and the military in a joint operation has foiled an attempted robbery attack at a first generation bank at Mpape, a suburb in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

The police said during the crossfire with the armed robbers, one of them was shot dead while trying to escape and four of the suspects were arrested.

In a statement signed by ASP Yusuf Mariam on Saturday in Abuja noted that the police received a distress call from the residents adding that the FCT Commissioner Bala Ciroma had ordered a discreet into the incident.

The statement, however urged FCT residents and its environs to go about their normal businesses as normalcy has been restored, while reiterating the Command’s readiness to nip crime in the bud in the FCT.

The statement read in part: “In prompt response to a distress call at Mpape , the FCT Police Command has foiled an attempted robbery attack at a First Bank branch at about 1200hrs,today.

“Police Operatives were immediately deployed to the scene and engaged in crossfire with the robbers thereby foiling the attack on the bank with the back up of the Military.

“Consequently, Four (4) suspects were arrested and one shot dead while trying to escape. The Commissioner of Police has ordered a discreet investigation of the incident.

“The Command urges residents to remain calm as normalcy has been restored while reassuring its commitment to nip crime in the bud and ensure safety in the FCT.
