Police Nab 40 Shiites Over Invasion Of NASS

The Nigerian Police Force, FCT Command, says 40 Shiite protesters have been arrested following the invasion of the National Assembly by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).

This was disclosed on Tuesday in a statement by the command spokesperson, Anjuguri Manzah.

According to the statement, “The FCT Police Command has foiled a violent move by members of the El-Zakzakky to forcefully invade the National Assembly on Tuesday.”

“The group broke into the premises of the National Assembly to protest the continued detention of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-zakzaky who has been detained by the government since December 2015

“During the violent protest two police personnel were shot while several cars were set ablaze.

“Following this, the police have said the 40 arrested Shiite members will be dealt with in accordance with the appropriate law of the land.

“In view of the foregoing, the command wishes to state unequivocally that while it recognizes and respects the right of citizens to peaceful procession, an attempt by any individual or group of persons to cause the breakdown of law and order will not be tolerated.”
