Police Nab ‘Killer’ Of Immigration Officer, Abductors Of ABU Officials

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) says it has arrested one of the killers of an Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, ACI Salisu Usman, in Nasarawa State.

The Force disclosed this in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer (PRO), CP Frank Mba on Wednesday.

Usman and his sister, Sa’adatu Usman, were reportedly killed on June 15, 2020, when the suspects stormed their residence and shot them. 

Before her death, Sa’adatu was a final year medical student of the Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto State. 

“The killers also abducted the wife of the victim, Asmau Salisu and collected ransom from the family before her release,” the police statement said.

The incident happened at his residence at the Gudi area of Akwanga Local Government Area (LGA), Nasarawa State.

The police said it had arrested the suspected gang leader of the group, Halidu Usman ‘m’ of Akwanga, who is currently assissting the police team in the investigations and arrest of other members of the group still at large. 

Meanwhile, police operatives have also arrested four kidnapping/armed robbery gang members allegedly responsible for the recent series of kidnappings of some staff of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria and their families. 

The gang members whose age fell within the ages of 27 and 23, were arrested following police investigations and rescue operations for the kidnap victims. 

The arrest of Abubakar Aliyu a.k.a Maigiwa, aged 27, led to the arrest of the other three gang members. 

Aliyu, according to the police, is a security staff of ABU Zaria who provided information to the gang on the movement and lifestyle of the victims.

The police said one of the kidnap victims had identified one Ibrahim Idris a.k.a Naira as a member of the gang responsible for his kidnapping and collection of ransom before his release. 

“Investigations reveal that Abubakar Ahmodu is responsible for spying on and identifying potential victims of kidnap for the gang. He provided intimate details about his father which led to the kidnap and eventual extortion of a ransom of Two Million naira from his biological father,” police said.

The Force, however, noted that some of the victims were rescued during the operation and reunited with their families while all the suspects will be charged to court on conclusion of investigations.

The police reiterated their commitment to cracking down on perpetrators of violent crimes in the country.

Mba also appreciated the citizenry, whose useful information availed the police have continued to yield positive outcomes.
