Police Officers Protest Death Of Colleagues In Kaduna, Kill Woman

Barely two weeks after some police officers protested in Borno state, another protest by police officers in Kaduna state resulting in the killing of a woman in an accidental discharge.

The aggrieved police officers had stormed the state headquarters with the corpses of two of their colleagues to protest the killing as well as the non-payment of their allowances.

It was learnt that the deceased policemen were deployed to Birnin Gwari to check the insecurity situation in the area after a fierce encounter with bandits that ambushed them while on a patrol in the area.

Confirming the incident, the state police public relations officer, a Deputy Superintendent, Mukhtar Aliyu, said the situation had been brought under control. Aliyu also said two of the bandits were killed while an AK47 rifle was recovered from them.

The statement reads: “Kaduna State Police Command wishes to categorically state that, on 16/07/2018 at about 1830hrs, a Team of Police Officers on special duty, while on routine patrol at Tabanni Village along Birnin-Gwari – Funtua Road, were ambushed and attacked by unidentified armed men.

“The Police Team engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle and at the end, two of the unidentified gun men were killed and one AK 47 rifle was recovered. Unfortunately, two Police Officers lost their lives in the incident. However, the situation has been promptly brought under control.

“In their deep mourning mood, some Police Officers who conveyed the corpses of their late colleagues to Kaduna on 17/07/2018 at about 1100hrs encountered an unfortunate incident where there was accidental discharge of gun-shot which hit a female member of the public. She was rushed to the hospital but sadly died from sustained wounds.

“The Police Command wishes to reassure members of the public that the State is calm and peaceful. As such, people are free and safe to go about their lawful businesses without fear or molestation” he said.

However, eyewitnesses said the police officers that conveyed the corpses of their colleagues to the command headquarters began shooting wildly into the air which hit and killed the woman.
