Police Protest: IGP ‘Summoned’ To Aso Rock

The Inspector General of Police was on Monday reportedly summoned to the presidential villa in Abuja.

According to The Cable, the police boss met with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and walked out of the villa around 2pm without speaking with reporters.

The meeting took place hours after Operatives of Nigerian Mobile Police flooded the streets of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital in protest of alleged six months unpaid salaries.

The protesting MOPOL officers have hurdled majors roads in the state’s capital over the alleged failure of the police to pay their salaries and allowances.

The MOPOL, which is the paramilitary division of the Nigeria Police Force, are usually sent on special assignments to distressed areas or states in the country.

According to reports, the Vice President summoned the IGP over the embarrassing incident.

Meanwhile, Force PRO, Jimoh Moshood, denied there was any protest in Borno, stating that the officers involved only made inquiries about their allowances.

He had earlier blamed the non-payment on the delay in the passage of the 2018 budget.
