The Lagos State Police Command has revealed the identity of an officer caught on tape extorting a motorist in the state.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, gave the name of the officer as Inspector Taloju Martin.
Martin was said to have extorted the said sum from the driver of a vehicle impounded for violating the Coronavirus lockdown in the state.
Elkana, in a statement issued on Sunday, said: “After analysing the video, the culprit was identified and arrested. He is Inspector Taloju Martin attached to Ago Police Station as Station Officer (SO).
“The complainant has also been identified. The money extorted is recovered and handed over to him by the Commissioner of Police.”
The police spokesperson added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, had ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of criminal investigation to investigate the activities of the Ago Police Station.
Elkana said the arrested officer had been handed over to the Provost Marshall for orderly room trial.
