Police To Enforce Tinted Glass Permit January 2

The Nigerian Police Force will resume enforcing the Tinted Glass Permit policy on Friday, January 2, 2026.

The decision follows a thorough review of emerging security threats and aims to address concerns over criminal activities involving vehicles with unauthorised tinted windows.

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Force, clarified that the court has not issued any restrictions on the enforcement of the policy.

He emphasised that the suspension of the law’s enforcement was made to allow motorists ample time to complete their registration processes.

“In the spirit of responsibility, transparency, and public convenience, the Force suspended enforcement to allow motorists the opportunity to regularise their documentation and complete the registration process without pressure,” Hundeyin said.

The move to lift the suspension and reactivate enforcement, according to him, comes in response to disturbing trends where individuals and criminal groups have exploited tinted glass vehicles to conceal their identities and perpetrate crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent acts.

Hundeyin noted the growing challenge these activities pose to public safety and the Force’s decision to resume enforcement as a proactive measure to safeguard communities across the country.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, assured the public that the renewed enforcement would be conducted professionally, respecting citizens’ rights and in alignment with current laws.

“The Force remains committed to promoting public safety and upholding the rule of law while working collaboratively with all stakeholders to keep Nigeria secure,” Egbetokun added.

The force further urged motorists in need of tinted glass permits to apply through the approved channels and ensure their vehicles comply with the necessary legal requirements.

The new directive comes two months after the IGP suspended the enforcement following a resolution reached during a meeting with a delegation from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), led by its president, Afam Josiah Osigwe, SAN, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
