Police Withdrawal: Melaye Cries Out, IGP Wants Me Dead

Dino Melaye, Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District at the National Assembly has reacted to the withdrawal of police personnels from politicians.

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, on Monday ordered the withdrawal of all police details attached to politicians, public service holders and Very Important Persons (VIPs) nationwide.

The police boss said the directive became imperative amidst worsening security challenges in the country.

Speaking during a conference with Senior Officers at the Louis Edet house in Abuja, IGP Idris said development also affects private businessmen, multi-national companies and other corporate organizations and their likes.

Reacting to the IGP’s directive on Monday, Melaye said the move is targeted at him, adding that the police boss wants him dead.

According to the senator, having survived assassination attempt twice, he deserves police protection.

He said: “Withdrawal of police from VIP I am the target. IG want to expose me so I can be killed. Having survived Assassination attempt twice I deserve police protection in a country where I’m a tax payer.”
