Police Yet To Apprehend Kidnappers Of VC’s Daughter – Kaduna PRO

The Kaduna State Police Command has said it is still on the trail of the kidnappers who abducted daughter of the former Vice Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Yakubu Sabo disclosed this in an exclusive interview with THE WHISTLER on Monday.

Recall that the victim, 35-year-old mother of three was said to have been kidnapped when the gunmen invaded the residence located at Hayin Malam Jama’a in the Sabon Gwari LGA, Zaria in Kaduna last Friday at about 11.30pm.

According to Sabo, the police are yet to apprehend the kidnappers but efforts are still in top gear to rescue the woman.   

He maintained that immediately the police got the distress call it swung into action and engaged the assailants in a gun battle, leading to the death of one of them.

“Efforts are still on course. The police are still on the trail of the perpetrators with a view to rescue the young lady unharmed, having in mind that in the course of the duel between the police and the attackers, one of them was neutralized and we have found some exhibits on the body which include an AK 47 magazine, loaded with 24 rounds of live ammunition, and some other recoveries,” he said.

On how long it will take the police to ensure the rescue of the lady, the force PRO added: “It’s an investigation. When incidents happen, the police commit itself to tackling such incidents in the best way. This is kidnapping. The police had responded promptly when they received the distress call and it was a result of that prompt response that they even engaged the hoodlums in the gun duel. As a result, one of the bandits was neutralized, who died on the spot during the exchange.

“Policemen have been dispatched to comb the area with a view to ensuring the rescue of the lady, who is a victim in the incident and also the apprehension of the perpetrators,” he concluded.

The police PRO further disclosed that a new spokesman for the Command will take over from him later on Monday.
