Policeman Who Shot Two FRSC Officials Dismissed

Police corporal, Iroh Orji, who was an orderly to the Speaker of the Abia House of Assembly, has been dismissed for shooting two officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, the Police has said.

Leye Oyebade, Commissioner of Police in Abia state, made this known while addressing journalist in the state on Monday.

Two FRSC officers were lucky to have survived after Mr Orji opened fire on them along the Umuikaa/Aba Port Harcourt expressway on July 15.

The officers underwent surgery at an undisclosed hospital in Abia State, following the attack.

The police commissioner said Orji was found guilty of committing the offence after he was trialed by the Force.

He said “the command and the police hierarchy condemned the action of the corporal,” describing his action as a negation of the laid down rules of the force.

“Police do not advise its members to use their arms and ammunition recklessly.

“Any armed police officer is expected to protect people not to shoot at them,” he said.

THE WHISTLER learnt that the wife of the Abia Speaker Victoria was travelling to Aba with her chief aide and a friend when they were accosted by FRSC officers on duty at the Arungwa Junction of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.

It was further gathered that the FRSC men wanted to book Mrs Victoria for allegedly not using her seat beat, when the ugly incident ensued.

Mr. Oyebade frowned at the incident, saying it could create distrust between the Police and other security agencies.

“All the security agencies in the state have been working in synergy with one another.

“Regrettably, this type of ugly incident is capable of bringing us at loggerheads with other agencies and it will not be healthy for our operations,” he said.
