Policemen ‘Beaten To Death’ In Oyo After Vehicle Hit Motorcyclist

Two policemen have been reportedly killed in the Iwo Road area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Their vehicle was also said to have been burnt in the incident that happened on Thursday.

It was gathered that three policemen were in a vehicle and the vehicle allegedly hit an okada rider who, some claimed, died while some said he was injured.

But the cops were said to have sped away in their car and the youths in the area pursued them until they caught up with them at Iwo Road area.

Having met a road block, they were said to have jumped out and ran away on foot.

But luck ran out on two of them as they were eventually caught by the youths. They were said to have been beaten to death while some soldiers attached to Operation Burst rescued one of them.

The two corpses were reportedly
dragged to the main road where they were burnt.

The governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, was.said to have gone round the Ibadan to calm the youths down.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Gbenga Fadeyi, said he should be given time to know what really happened.

Also, a police station in Iseyin as well as the office of Nigerian Customs Service in the town were reportedly attacked and vandalised by some youths.

The youths in the town were said to have stolen office equipment and other valuable items found there.

The Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Abdulganiy Ologunebi, was said to have appealed to the youths against attacking the public facilities but his plea fell on their deaf ears.
