Politicians Celebrate Peter Odili At 70

Former Rivers State governor, Peter Odili, was on Tuesday celebrated by close friends, colleagues and family members as he marked his 70th birthday anniversary in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

At an event put together by the Rivers State Government, Odili was celebrated as a detribalised and patriotic Nigerian who is committed to the unity and development of Nigeria.

Those present at the ceremony, include present and past governors in the country, statesmen, traditional rulers and captains of industries.

Prominent among the delegates were the governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike and his wife, immediate past governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada, Former Cross River State military ruler Umar Farouk Ahmed, former governor of Rivers State, Celestine Omehia, and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus.

The Secretary General of the apex pan Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, and some leaders of Arewa, were also present at the occasion.

Former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Kanu Agabi, SAN, who was the guest speaker, praised Odili’s statesmanly politics.

Born on 15 August 1948 in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, Odili graduated from the Medical School of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and pursued post-graduate work in Tropical Medicine at the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom.

He was elected governor of Rivers State in April 1999, and was reelected in April 2003. Dr. Odili is married to Justice Mary Ukaego Odili.
