Pope Francis said his visit to Egypt will go as scheduled despite the two bombings at Coptic Christian churches last weekend.

The Pope is expected to visit Cairo on April 28 and April 29 at the invitation of Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II, Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed el-Tayeb and President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi.

The sovereign of Vatican City will also meet with the grand imam of al-Azhar and the head of the Coptic Christian church during the visit.

Recall that at least 44 people were killed in Egypt in bomb attacks at the cathedral of the Coptic Pope and St. George Church on Palm Sunday, prompting anger and fear among Christians and leading to the declaration of a three-month state of emergency.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks, which also injured more than 100 people and occurred a week before Coptic Easter.

Islamic State said two of its fighters wearing suicide vests carried out the attacks, and it warned of more to come.
