Port Harcourt Killings: Police Deposit Two Dead Bodies, 3 Others In Critical Condition

At least two dead bodies suspected to be from Rukpokwu shooting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, were on Thursday delivered at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) by some police officers.

According to Kofi Bartels, a radio presenter, “Apart from the corpses, atleast three persons were taken to UPTH alive.

“They are Daniel from Delta State, and two others- Amaechi from Nsukka, Enugu State who has a bullet in his back and Onome who says he is from Delta State. On one’s right leg was shattered after being shot. They are both in critical conditions.

“Daniel, the young man who was not shot but handcuffed and taken by the police alongside the two who were shot and the dead bodies, says he works at a car wash at Rukpokwo where the incident happened.

“Daniel narrated he was on his way home from work, because work had been shutdown due to the ongoing protest.

“Daniel reportedly told Bartels he hid for a while because of the shooting and when the coast was clear, he went on his way only to be accosted and arrested by the police.”

Onome whose leg was shattered by bullets, says he was on his way to work when he was fired at. He says he works as a security guard.

Amaechi, who was shot in the back, says he was on his way to work and that was when the police fired at a crowd gathered on the road. He says he wasn’t part of any protest.
