Post-Master General Blames WhatsApp, BBM For Students’ Failure In English

The Post-Master General of Nigeria, Adebisi Adegbuyi has said that students fail English Language largely due to their use of short codes and symbols on social messaging platforms like WhatsApp, BBM, and SMS.

Adegbuyi, who was represented by Omo Emmanuel at the 2016 Letter Writing Competitions in Plateau, noted that Nigerian students largely find it difficult to spell common English words due to their overdependence on abbreviations in chats.

“It is worrisome that students cannot spell words correctly; they are more used to short codes and symbols they use in sending Short Message Service (SMS) on their mobile phones,” Adegbuyi said.
