Gobir, while leading that debate had said that there was a need to create the commission to coordinate and monitor all activities relating to poverty eradication in the country.

According to the group, the overwhelming support by all the senators in plenary during the second reading of the bill is a clear demonstration of the determination of the eighth senate to address poverty in the country.

Okoronkwo noted with delight that the national poverty eradication commission bill, if passed into law, will coordinate and monitor all poverty reduction activities of the Federal Government.

He urged the Senate to ensure that only Nigerians of excellent experience and impeachable character are appointed to head the National Poverty Eradication Commission.
