Presidency Denies IPOB Attack On Buhari In Japan

The Presidency has dismissed social media reports of alleged attack on President Muhammadu Buhari by the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The reports had suggested that President Buhari, who is currently visiting Japan, was harassed by IPOB members in the country.

Recall that the proscribed group had humiliated Nigeria’s former Deputy Senate President, Dr Ike Ekweremadu, by pelting him with stones during his recent visit to Germany.

Reports of the alleged attack on Buhari emerged after IPOB, on Monday, claimed that the President was yet to arrive Japan, 24 hours after he departed Abuja to participate in the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7), holding in Yokohama from August 28 to 30.

Reacting to the reports, presidential aide, Femi Adesina said the secessionist group “has had nothing to do with President Buhari since he arrived Yokohama, Japan, on Monday”.

Meanwhile, IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu was said to have instructed members of the group in Japan to “attack” President Buhari upon his arrival to the country in the manner they did to Ekweremadu in Germany.

According to Sahara Reporters, Kanu ordered the IPOB supporters to “disgrace and arrest the president when he arrived the Asian nation on Sunday.”
