Presidency Postpones 2017 Budget Presentation

The minister made the disclosure after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on November 30th.

The Presidency had set December 1 for the presentation of the 2017 Appropriation Bill to the legislature.

It will be recalled that the Senate minority leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio had last week, while contributing to a debate on the floor of the Senate, said the president will present the budget on Thursday, December 1.

However, speaking yesterday after the FEC meeting, Mr. Udoma said: “The budget has been approved by the Federal Executive Council and the details of course will be revealed when the President presents the budget to the National Assembly.

“With regards to the date, the President will be communicating to the National Assembly and of course it will be at the National Assembly’s discretion ultimately.

“The President will write to them. It is after they confirm that the president can go to address them,” he added.

Ahead of the presentation, a team from the executive arm will meet the leadership of the National Assembly on Thursday to conclude arrangement and agree on the matter.

President Buhari presented the 2016 budget to the National Assembly on December 22 last year.
