Princess Miriam Onuoha: New Dawn Beckons For Okigwe North

Some know her as “Mama Sure-P” due to her role in supporting maternal and child health in Nigeria through the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) of the Federal Government in 2012. But to many helpless women and youths, Princess Miriam Odinaka Onuoha is “a caring and vibrant woman with a heart of gold” who has taken it upon herself to always put smiles on the faces of widows, the helpless, and the people of Okigwe North in Imo State.

Princess Miriam is taking her kind-heartedness to the next level as she has decided to fully submit herself to serving the people in Okigwe, Onuimo and Isiala Mbano Local Government Areas which make up Okigwe North Federal Constituency. She is indeed putting herself forward once again to contest the House of Representatives seat for Okigwe North in 2019 under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The native of Umunachi Osu-Ama in Insiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State attended her early childhood education at Central School Umunachi Osu-Ama before attending Tilley Gyado College Markudi, Benue State. The House of Reps aspirant equally attended Aquinas Model Secondary School Osu-Ama where she obtained her senior secondary certificate.

Princess Miriam is a graduate of Estate Management from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). She also holds a masters degree in Environmental Planning and Protection from the University of Abuja.

She had previously served as a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Bayelsa State on International Development Cooperation amongst other previous political engagement.

Her new quest to represent the people of Okigwe North Federal Constituency in the lower chamber of the National Assembly will no doubt enable her empower more people at the grass roots through her humanitarian works. Princess Miriam has empowered thousands of youths and especially women through her Non-governmental Organisation known as the Initiative for Growth and Self-employment. She has equally founded a number of empowerment and charity projects such as the Widows Welfare Initiative and Helping Hands Educational Foundation which provides scholarships for students from very poor backgrounds amongst others.

Princess Miriam is often referred to as “a caregiver” by her followers and admirers of her good works. In Okigwe North, the elegant mother of five lovely children has been described as a mother who takes care of the youths just the way she cares for her own children.

Her followers know her as a peace maker, a grassroots mobilizer, a bridge builder and a trust worthy (trusted and trust) who cannot disappoint if given the chance to represent the people at the National Assembly.

Onuoha herself has said in her campaign posters that she is on a mission to recover Okigwe North through “effective representation and legislation on core constituency and national issues”. The aspirant pledged to attract federal projects to Okigwe North using her experience and goodwill, while also “stimulating coordinated developments through participatory needs assessment and governance in order of community peculiarity and priority.” She listed the promotion of women and youth empowerment/employment schemes as one of the drivers of her quest to run for the Okigwe North House of Reps seat.
