Protesters Chant ‘Free Jang’ As Senator Is Arraigned By EFCC

Some loyalists of former Plateau State Governor and incumbent Senator representing Plateau North in the Senate, Jonah Jang, on Monday, picketed a Federal High Court in the state as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigns the federal lawmaker over a N6.3bn fraud.

The protesters, numbering hundreds according to reports, staged the protest against EFCC’s alleged detention of Senator Jang for a whole week before his arraignment in the Jos High Court today.

The demonstrators, said to have grouped themselves under the aegis of The Jang Support Group, claimed that “Jang’s detention is simply a witch-hunt to derail his plans to contest the 2019 presidential elections”.

Meanwhile, Daily Trust reports that over 150 heavily armed policemen were on ground at the court’s premises as the EFCC arraigns Mr Jang on a 12-count charge of alleged corruption and stealing at the tail end of his administration as governor in 2015.
