Protesting Drivers Block Kaduna-Abuja Highway

Following the alleged killing of a commercial driver by a unit of the security agencies on the Kaduna-Abuja expressway, drivers of articulated vehicles block both lanes of the highway.

According to reports, the driver of Peugeot J-5 bus was shot by the operatives around Olam, while on his way to Kaduna around 7:30 am.

It was alleged that the driver was shot for his refusal to give N2000 bribe.

The driver was allegedly transporting smuggled rice to an unknown destination.

The reports maintained that other drivers who saw what happened came down to protest the shooting of the driver and parked their cars on the road blocking the highway.

According to an eye witness, drivers have refused to move their cars and have blocked both the road leading to and from Abuja causing a lock down along the route.

Another eyewitness said no car is currently moving along the route as it has been totally blocked but that more security personnel have been deployed to the place.

It was gathered that a Dangote female truck driver, was the first to arrive at the scene and used her truck to block one of the lanes and other drivers joined her to block the other lane.

The drivers insisted that they would not remove the barricades until Kaduna State governor and the commissioner of police in the state address them.

While assuring motorists that matter is being handled, the state Commissioner for Internal Security, Samuel Aruwan posted on Facebook saying, “Kaduna-Abuja Road gridlock around Olam Company. We are working and the road will be cleared in a jiffy.”
