Protests: COREN Calls For Dialogue, Postpones 32nd Engineering Assembly

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), on Friday, announced the postponement of its 32nd Engineering Assembly, originally scheduled for August 5th to 7th in Abuja, due to ongoing nationwide protests.

To this end, the council called on the protesters and all the relevant authorities involved to embrace dialogue to solve the nationwide protests.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja, the President of the Council, Professor Sadiq Abubakar, said that the event will now take place from September 2nd to 4th, adding that all previous arrangements, including venue and logistics, will remain unchanged.

He stressed the importance of prioritizing public safety amidst the current unrest and called on protesters and all involved parties to seek dialogue and consensus to address the nation’s challenges.

He said: ” As you are aware, our country is currently experiencing nationwide protests. In light of this, we have an important announcement regarding our upcoming 32nd Engineering Assembly.

“As previously announced, the event was scheduled to take place in Abuja from August 5th to 7th. However, due to the prevailing situation, we have made the logical decision to postpone the event from September 2nd to 4th. The venues and all other arrangements remain the same.

“We urge the press to assist us in informing our participants and the nation of this change. As Nigerians and engineering practitioners, we prioritize the well-being and safety of our citizens.

“We appeal to all parties involved in the protests to engage in dialogue and consensus-building to resolve the current challenges facing our country. We urge all parties to approach the situation with wisdom, respect, and a commitment to peaceful resolution.

“We wish our country, leaders, and citizens a peaceful and swift resolution to the current situation.”
