The public outcry that greeted the dastardly act led the state police command to swing into action which culminated into the arrest of one suspect in connection to the crime.

The police said the suspect was arrested after fingerprints on the fire extinguisher used to attacked her, was examined.

According to Jinadu, who spoke in an interview with THE WHISTLER, one major reason why perpetrators of this crime, kill their victims, is for identity protection.

He said most often, the rapists are people that were close to the victims, and as such the perpetrators are scared of the victims revealing their identities.

“There are so many reasons why a rapists would rape and at the same time, still kill their victims. One very common reason is the protection of their identity. Most rapists perpetrate the act on people they know. People that they’re a bit close to, either neighbour, family relative. Somehow they’re a bit close,” he said.

“However, for this to happen, most likely the victims know the perpetrator and perhaps the perpetrator is scared of the victim revealing his identity.

“If you look at the whole scenario, it leaves a lot to question: in a church, a lone place, so there seem to suggest that both of them knew the identity of each other and the perpetrator was perhaps, scared of the victim revealing who he is.”

The psychologist stated further: “Again, another theory that one can adduce is the fact that the incident seem to have the hand writing of what we refer to as anger or sadistic rape.
More in terms of anger rape. Usually the perpetrators of anger rape tend to have deficiency in self regulation and that sense of entitlement.

“So it’s possible that this person has been chasing after this young lady; the young lady has put him down, and then he has this feeling of entitlement, that why would you put me down? Something am entitled to.

“So there is this thwarted understanding of gender relationship, and if that is very glaring, you can certainly understand why such a person would commit this act, even though it is a criminal act, there are underlying issues psychogically that could me this person to commit this act.”
