Reactions Trail Shiites Shooting, Invasion Of National Assembly

The invasion of the National Assembly complex on Tuesday by suspected members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), otherwise known as Shiites, is currently generating buzz on social media.

The Shiites members stormed the premises of the NASS complex when both legislative chambers were in session.

The Islamist group, who were said to be protesting the continued detention of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, reportedly shot two police and one civil defence operatives who attempted to stop them from gaining entrance into the complex.

The injured officers are said to be in critical condition at a clinic within the NASS premises.

The Shiites also vandalized some vehicles around the entrance of the complex with stones and other objects.

Photos being circulated on social media also indicate that members of the group sustained injuries from the clash.
