The company on Thursday commenced with the planting of 500 trees in its estate at Lugbe.

The Federal Capital Development Authority had last week flagged off its tree-planting campaign in Karshi, Abuja Area Municipal Council, targeted at planting 25 million trees.

The Minister of State for FCT Minister, Ramatu Aliyu, said the measure would allow an eco-friendly housing capable of reducing the greenhouse effect across the FCT.

The General Manager Human and Business Relation of Jedo Investment Company, Tony Obi, told THE WHISTLER that the move was part of global efforts to save the planet from climate change.

He said the initiative embarked by the Abuja-based real estate company was a proactive measure taken by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Aliyu Oriji Wamakko, to key into the plans of the FCT in preserving the planet from greenhouse effect.

Obi said that the move would compel other members of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria to follow the steps of its newly elected chairman, Wamakko.

He said, “The level of deforestation and changes in the planet was alarming and needs drastic approach to curb the effect.”

The real estate expert said the move was also part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to help combat challenges facing the planet.

He said the tree planting initiative of both the FCTA and the company would help beautify Nigeria’s capital city, as well as its targeted estates across the FCT.

Obi explained that tree planting would give houses across the FCT safer air and curb most airborne diseases resulting from global warming.

REDAN Business Strategy Manager, John Zaka, said during the event that the move by Jedo investment to key into the tree planting initiative with over 500 trees would spur its over 2500 members to follow suit.

He said REDAN members across the country could embark on planting over 1.25 million trees this year alone.

Zaka further lauded the efforts of REDAN chairman and the FCT Administration for the tree planting initiative currently ongoing across Nigeria’s capital.
