Remains of Former Vice President, Alex Ekwueme Arrive Abuja

The remains of former Vice President, Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme (GCON), arrived at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Monday.

Dr. Ekwueme who was born on October 21, 1932 in Oko, Orumba North Local Government of Anambra State, was the first elected Vice-President of Nigeria between 1979 to 1983.

He was flown abroad after collapsing at his Enugu residence.

Dr Ekwueme died in a London hospital at 10 pm on Sunday, November 19, 2017.

The Anambra State government had earlier announced that there would be a state-wide public holiday on 1st February 2018, the day fixed for his burial.
